The Episcopal Diocese of Northwest Texas and the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd issued this statement on August 31, 2013 following the Texas Supreme Court’s opinion in the Masterson case. Episcopalians react to Texas Supreme Court opinion

The Rt. Rev. Rayford B. High, Jr., bishop of Fort Worth; the Standing Committee, and the Board of Trustees of the Corporation of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth are disappointed by the August 30, 2013 opinion of the Texas Supreme Court that failed to uphold the summary judgment of the 141st District Court, Tarrant County, Texas. That judgment granted the Local Episcopal Parties’ and The Episcopal Church’s Motions for Summary Judgments.

Worship has begun for Common Grace Lutheran at St. Luke’s, Stephenville

A congregation of thirty-four people participated in the second worship service of Common Grace Lutheran Chapel, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Stephenville. The Rev. Kevin S. Kanouse, bishop of the Northern Texas – Northern Louisiana Mission Area of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), preached. The Rev. Trip planned to see “The Promise” on October 4, 2013

A group from St. Luke in the Meadow Episcopal Church, 4301 Meadowbrook Drive, Fort Worth, 76103, is planning a trip to see “The Promise” in Glen Rose on Friday, October 4, 2013. Final reservations have to be made 30 days in advance, so the deadline is September 4. This is the 25th anniversary of the production. Diocese continues tornado relief help in Johnson, Hood Counties

Bishop Rayford High drove to Cleburne recently for one specific purpose – to hand over $6,000 to the Cleburne Area Relief Fund to assist in the ongoing rebuilding efforts in that community. It is part of the diocese’s commitment to help both Cleburne and Granbury recover from the May 15 tornadoes that ripped through Hood, Johnson, and Ellis Counties, leaving wide swaths of destruction in their wake. Integrity to have fifth annual Dinner with the Bishop

Integrity Fort Worth is hosting its 5th annual Dinner with the Bishop on Friday, September 13, 2013, at St. Luke’s in the Meadow Episcopal Church, 4301 Meadowbrook Drive, Fort Worth, TX, 76103. Diocesan stewardship team forming

With the goal of supporting congregations’ growth in stewardship, Bishop High has named a five-person stewardship team – Bob Bess (St. Martin-in-the-Fields Keller), Mary Lilly (St. Luke Stephenville), Mark Neyland (Trinity Fort Worth), Oswell Person (St. Christopher Fort Worth), and Whit Smith (All Saints Fort Worth). The team will work in partnership with the bishop and with diocesan stewardship officer Demi Prentiss, linking congregations with people and resources.

Apply now for mission funding

This year’s diocesan budget includes $11,233 for outreach programs within the diocese and $6,479 for programs beyond its geographical boundaries. Mark Daly, chair of the diocese’s Mission and Outreach Committee (a subcommittee of the diocesan Finance Committee) recently wrote to congregations across the diocese, requesting that congregations and ministries submit applications for the budgeted funds by Sept. 1.
