St. Martin’s Keller calls new rector

In a June 23 letter to the congregation of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Keller, Senior Warden Keen Haynes wrote, “Dear Parish Family, It is with great pleasure that I announce that the Vestry has elected the candidate recommended by the Search Committee, the Rev. Canon Alan D. Bentrup, as the new Rector of St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church.”

The Rev. Canon Alan Bentrup

Bentrup, a Fort Worth native, will  start at St. Martin’s on July 26. His first Sunday will be August 1.

He currently serves as Canon for Evangelism and Mission for the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina, helping parishes discern how they can share the good news of Jesus and participate in God’s mission. He is the co-founder and curator of Missional Voices, a hub of conversation about innovative ministries and missional communities in The Episcopal Church. Previously Alan served as Associate Rector at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church outside of Houston.

Alan holds several leadership positions across the Episcopal Church, including as a Trustee for Voorhees College (an Episcopal-affiliated HBCU); a member of the Council of Advice for Episcopal Relief & Development; and on the planning and leadership teams for several Episcopal conferences and events. A graduate of Virginia Theological Seminary, Alan was the first student to earn the New Mission Practices concentration at VTS.

Bentrup earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. Prior to seminary he spent 10 years as a marketing and business development consultant in Dallas and Houston.

Bentrup’s wife, Elizabeth, will be a third grade teacher at the Episcopal School of Dallas. Alan and Elizabeth have two sons, Ford (age 13) and Walker (age 11).
