In October, Refugee Services of Texas FW has had more than 120 arrivals. In one recent week, they resettled 45 evacuees from Afghanistan, including a family of 11. “Donations go out as quickly as they come in, and our staff and volunteers are working hard to give everyone a warm welcome. Can you help?” was the plea on their Facebook Page.
Refugee Services of Texas (RST) was founded in 1978. It is a partner with Episcopal Migration Ministries. It is “a social-service agency dedicated to providing assistance to refugees and other displaced persons fleeing persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group – as well as to the communities that welcome them. RST provides services to hundreds of refugees, asylees, survivors of human trafficking, and related vulnerable populations from over 30 different countries of origin each year. Originating in Dallas, RST now has service centers in Amarillo, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston,” according to its website.
They need:
– bed frames
– hygiene items (soap, toothbrushes/paste, shampoo, and conditioner)
– Walmart gift cards to purchase unique needs
Additionally, you can help ensure that the newly-arrived families feel at home in their new lives by purchasing items from RST’s Amazon wish list: https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/3F6PYPJGBL4NB…
RST FW has a partnership with Tarrant County Furniture Bank using vouchers to buy furniture.
Each voucher is $10 and an entire apartment can be set up for 30-40 vouchers
RST FW urges people to reach out to the furniture bank, let them know you want to donate for RST vouchers and they will walk you through the process.
