Prayer for People Facing Great Uncertainty

God of the present moment, God who in Jesus stills the storm and soothes the frantic heart; bring hope and courage to all as they wait in uncertainty. Bring hope that you will make them the equal of whatever lies ahead. Bring them courage to endure what cannot be avoided, for your will is health and wholeness; you are God, and we need you. National Council of Churches on Response to Sandy Hook

I have been inspired by the great outpouring of support and compassion I have seen in the faith community’s response to the devastating shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School. From prayer vigils to pastoral care resources, and from moving sermons to the many, many prayers for the families and community in Newtown – the outpouring of God’s love to this community through God’s people has been hope fulfilled.
