Faith in Texas offering training to organize for social justice

On Saturday, July 11th, 2015, Faith in Texas will host a day-long workshop in Dallas for 300 leaders who want to organize their faith community for social justice.

The gathering is from 9am-5pm at Lover’s Lane United Methodist Church, Asbury Hall, 9200 Inwood Rd, Dallas, TX 75220. The training is capped at 300 participants. Register here. There is no charge but donations are encouraged to enable the organizers to make this workshop free and open to leaders of all incomes. Register online where you can also donate. Faith in Texas leaders are hoping to raise $10,000 this month to cover the costs of this July training.

Participants will learn how to unlock new leadership in your community, practice visiting people one-on-one to lift up unheard stories in our communities, prepare to meet with decision makers in the community and hold them accountable to fix broken systems. They also will encounter a diverse group of people who want to work together across race, class, and cultural lines.

Faith in Texas is made up of churches, parishes, and congregations who work together to fix broken systems in our cities and region. It is are part of the PICO National Network, which stands for People Improving Communities through Organizing. To learn more about how faith-rooted organizing works, watch this short video.

People are encouraged to bring a group of 5-15 people who want to apply what they learn together in their local faith community. Please note that the training will also be offered in Spanish. Youth and young adults are welcome. Faith in Texas leaders are hoping to raise $10,000 this month to cover the costs of this July training.
