Episcopal Relief and Development has posted a statement about the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on April 25. They identify urgent needs and assessment efforts. Episcopal Relief and Development is working with ACT Alliance and talking to other local partners about how to help, including the Deanery of Nepal, the Diocese of Singapore, the Diocese of West Malaysia, CASA in northern India, and Amity in southwest China.
The Rev. Janet Nocher, diocesan coordinator for Episcopal Relief and Development, urges that people contribute to the relief effort through the Nepal Earthquake Response Fund donation page that has been set up. Nocher asks, “Please keep Nepal and all those impacted in your thoughts and prayers.”
Responding to disasters, both in the US and worldwide, is one of the four focus areas of the work of Episcopal Relief and Development. The other three areas are alleviating hunger, creating economic opportunities and promoting health.
If you are open to being asked to serve in response to a future disaster, sign up with Episcopal Relief and Development’s “Ready to Serve” database, part of the US Disaster Preparedness Initiative, and give details about skills you have that you are willing to share.
