The Rev. Cindy Ruiz, deacon, has been assigned to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Granbury, by Bishop Scott Mayer. The Rev. Dr. Suzi Robertson is the priest in charge. Good Shepherd worships at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Ruiz was ordained as a deacon October 23, 2012, at St Elisabeth’s Episcopal Church in Fort Worth (River Oaks), by Bishop Sam Hulsey and Bishop Wallis Ohl. She was installed as deacon at Good Shepherd on December 2.
Ruiz and her family moved to Fort Worth in 2001. She was received into The Episcopal Church at St. Luke’s in the Meadow, Fort Worth. After the birth of her son Liam, she began studying theology in the Spanish-language Instituto Teologico at the Cathedral of St. Matthew in Dallas. Former Bishop Jack Iker approved her to enter the ordination process in Dallas and she began in February, 2006. She began studying for a Masters of Divinity at Perkins School of Theology at SMU with scholarships as a Congregational Fellow of the Fund for Theological Education and the Province VII Hispanic Ministry Scholarship. She transferred membership to the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Irving and was on staff as youth minister there while continuing at Perkins. She began at Seminary of the Southwest in Austin in 2008 and graduated in 2011 with Master’s in Divinity with Hispanic Studies Certificate. Upon graduation, she began working at St. Elisabeth’s Church in River Oaks.
She is a contributor to Lifting Women’s Voices: Prayers to Change the World (4 prayers included) and “Blessed to Be a Blessing” from The Episcopal Church Office of Stewardship. She is a facilitator for the Kaleidoscope Institute program run by the Rev. Eric H.F. Law.
