The service was meaningful on many levels, not the least of which was the presence of the  women of color.  Bhan  is Pakistani-American, born of parents who immigrated from Pakistan to the United States.  Harris is Black. Gallagher is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. The Rev. Dr. Samira Izadi, who read the Gospel, is Iranian. Mayer is a white man. Many of those present remarked on what a moving experience is was to witness the diversity at the altar.
