Trinity Episcopal Church in Fort Worth is sponsoring the production; proceeds will benefit Episcopal Relief & Development’s community gardens and reforestation initiatives.
The all-youth cast has been rehearsing their lines, songs, and dance numbers, and creating costumes, sets, and props (including a portable cow).
This CandleWater Players Production of Into the Woods is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI), which also supplies all performance materials. Music and lyrics were composed by Stephen Sondheim, with orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick; the musical is based on the book by James Lapine, who also directed the original Broadway production.
This is the fourth year that CandleWater Players has presented a summer theatrical benefit performance. Productions over the past three summers included Godspell in 2012, Seussical, Jr. in 2013, and Hello Dolly in 2014.
The last three productions, in total, raised approximately $23,000 – enough to purchase a water well and several community gardens through Episcopal Relief and Development’s Gifts for Life program and to benefit Episcopal and Methodist disaster relief initiatives.
