Training at convention on discerning truth through relationships

As Christians, we have promised to follow Jesus’ call to seek and serve Christ in every person and respect the dignity of every human being. Loving our neighbor as God loves us can be easy when our neighbors look and think a lot like us. But when they don’t, or when we begin defining “neighbor” too narrowly, we often run into trouble.

How do we find our way, individually and in community, through this tangle? How can we intentionally build inclusive communities?  How do we learn not only to talk across lines of race, gender, language, generation, sexual orientation, religion, and more, but to truly love one another?

Come find some answers at the training offered prior to the beginning of diocesan convention at 1:30 – 3:30 pm Friday, November 11*, in the McNair Theater at All Saints’ Episcopal School.

The Rev. Eric Law of the Kaleidoscope Institute will tell us how we can begin Discerning the Truth through building Relationships. The training is open to everyone, but you must register.

“The training will provide concrete processes and theology to assist congregations to discern the truth about the real needs, concerns, and justice issues of their communities through building trusting relationships first. When we are able to hear the truth through our relationships, we can invest our time and resources in ways that are impactful and relevant to the people in our community transforming lives and fostering wellness,” Law said.

Law developed this training to continue the ministry he started back in the late 1980s when he began his own theological and practical journey through the landscape of diversity.

Law is “the founder and executive director of the Kaleidoscope Institute, the mission of which is to provide resources to equip church leaders to create sustainable churches and communities. For more than 25 years, he has provided transformative and comprehensive training and resources for churches and ministries in all the major church denominations in the United States and Canada. He is the author of 9 books including The Wolf Shall Dwell with the Lamb, and his latest, Holy Currency Exchange: 101 Stories, Songs, Actions and Visions of Missional and Sustainable Ministries.”

He also is a playwright, photographer, and composer of church music.
