St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, Hurst, held its first worship service in their new building at 463 West Harwood Road in Hurst on Sunday, August 24, 2014.
More than 80 people attended the worship service. The move to the new space marked the return to a 10 am worship time for St. Stephen’s, and is one of the many benefits of being in a space they control 24/7. When they rented space from the Northeast Wedding Chapel, they had to start worship earlier because they frequently had to be out of the building — with all their things put away — before people began arriving to set up for 11:30 weddings.
In fact, when St. Stephen’s held its last worship service in the wedding chapel on Sunday, August 17, everyone came dressed to work because they had to quickly pack up, load everything into a trailer and the trunks of their cars, and be gone — because there was an 11:30 wedding scheduled that day.
Other benefits to which they look forward are things most congregations take for granted — having a space to hold mid-week worship services, Bible studies, Lenten suppers, and other such events. They also anticipate operating many outreach ministries from their new Harwood location.
Bishop Rayford High will visit St. Stephen’s on Sunday, September 14, to dedicate and bless the new space.
