St. Christopher, Fort Worth, will have a service of contemplative prayer enriched by the music of Taize at 6 pm Sunday, December 9, 2018. The Taize Community is an ecumenical Christian monastic community in Taize, Burgundy, France, founded by Brother Roger Schutz in 1940. It has become one of the world’s most important sites of Christian pilgrimage, with a focus on youth. The overarching theme of Taize is reconciliation through prayer. The brothers provide hospitality for thousands of pilgrims from around the globe each year and serve in some of the poorest and most helpless situations in the world, such as Calcutta, Haiti, and New York City.
The music of the Taize Community are short songs, mostly scripture texts, that are easy to sing and easy to remember. The songs unite worshipers in common prayer around the world. Worshipers at St. Christopher often sing some of the Taize chants during their regular communion services.
