Texas Supreme Court to review Court of Appeals opinion
On Friday, August 30, 2019, the Texas Supreme Court agreed to hear oral argument on both (1) the breakaway parties’ petition for review the Fort Worth Court of Appeals April 2018 opinion in favor of the loyal Episcopalians of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth as well as (2) our conditional cross-petition for review. The Presiding Officers’ Advisory Group on Beloved Community Implementation has made available funds to catalyze the church’s work of racial healing, reconciliation and justice. “The funds have been allocated by General Convention in order to build capacity and increase Episcopal engagement in four primary fields: telling the truth about our churches and race, proclaiming the dream of Beloved Community, practicing Jesus’ way of healing and reconciliation, and repairing the breach in institutions and society,” according to the Episcopal Church website.…
St. Christopher Daughters of the King host rosary workshop
The Daughters of the King of St. Christopher Episcopal Church invite all to join them for a rosary workshop guided by Nick Buskin on Saturday, August 24, from 9 am-12 pm with a rosary service to follow. Does a recent change in gun laws affect churches? Yes, and no.
Lawmakers passed many laws related to guns in the last legislative session, but only one, Senate Bill 535, directly mentioned or affects churches. Gov. Greg Abbott recently signed it into law. While it removes places of worship from the list of sites where carrying weapons is prohibited, it does not restrict the rights of churches to prohibit licensed Texans from carrying on their premises.
