Mark your calendars now for three opportunities to learn and share fellowship with lay and clergy leaders from the Northern Texas – Northern Louisiana Mission Area of the ELCA (Evangelical Lutheran Church in America). March 18, May 6, and September 23, our Lutheran brothers and sisters invite all from the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth to join in dreaming together about mission and ministry.
Episcopalians are invited to join the gatherings at Briarwood, the Lutheran conference facility near Argyle, TX. At a cost of $12 for the day, leaders assemble to hear engaging dreamcasters, enjoy lunch, and share insights from 9:30am to 3:30pm. The days provide new visions for the future of mission and ministry, and offer an opportunity to get to know some of our companions on the journey.
On March 18, Dr. Ted Campbell, associate professor of church history at Perkins School of Theology, offers his presentation “Death of the Mainline – NOT!” Campbell asks, “Is the announcement of the death of the mainline premature?” His answer will reveal why he thinks mainline churches are alive and well, and what that means for your ministry.
May 6 brings “A Helpful Smile in Every Aisle.” Dr. Bill Withers, assistant director of the Institute for Leadership Education at Wartburg College, explains how the best practices of four- and five-star service providers can apply to your church and what they can do to strengthen your outreach and hospitality. Bill has studied and consulted with Proctor & Gamble, Ritz-Carlton, Disney, and Starbuck’s.
On September 23, Dr. Rita Brock’s presentation “Moral Injury” explores how we can be better equipped to walk with those facing difficult decisions or who have lived through morally challenging events such as withdrawing life support. Brock is the co-director of the Soul Repair Center at Brite Divinity School.
