St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church and Stop Hunger Now are combining forces in the fight against hunger, and they invite you to join the fight. Be one of the 50-60 volunteers, students, and community leaders to package meals for the world’s hungry on Saturday, September 24, at 10 am in the school building on St. Martin’s campus in Keller. A Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event is an intergenerational, volunteer-based activity that coordinates the streamlined, assembly-line packaging of highly nutritious dehydrated meals into small meal packets. Volunteers of all ages, including families with children as young as 5, can work.
St. Martin’s invites individuals, families, congregations, ministry groups, and community organizations to come and be a part of this outreach event. The Rev. Scot McComas, rector at St. Martin’s, said:
God’s people working together can do such great things to meet needs in our world! By sharing experiences and working side by side at events like this one, our community can learn to serve more fruitfully in hands-on ways. It’s humbling and motivating to experience that three hours of work together can make such a tremendous impact. Like with hunger initiatives on the local level, specifically with the planned 4 Saints Food Pantry at St. Luke’s in the Meadow, we know without a doubt that we can reach farther and do more together. Come, and let this event transform us while we serve others.
The meal packaging program is an assembly-line process where volunteers combine rice, soy, dehydrated vegetables and a flavoring/vitamin mix into small meal packets. Stop Hunger Now operates meal packaging locations in 19 cities throughout the U.S., including Grand Prairie, Texas, and at five international locations. The packaged food stores easily, have a shelf-life of two years and transport quickly.
The number of lives that have been touched by those meals is tremendous! Since starting this program in 2005, Stop Hunger Now has now packaged more than 250 million meals. In Dallas/Fort Worth alone, they’ve already packaged more than a half million meals in 2016!

Stop Hunger Now’s mission
For more than 15 years, Stop Hunger Now has been driven by a mission to end hunger by providing food and life-changing aid to the world’s most vulnerable and by creating a global commitment to mobilize the necessary resources.
The Stop Hunger Now meal packaging program was created to give dedicated individuals the opportunity to participate in a hands-on international hunger relief program and to become educated, engaged advocates for the world’s poor and hungry.
What we want everyone to know is that hunger is solvable and is the common thread among the world’s most challenging issues. When hunger is targeted, you give leverage and hope to every other cause including poverty, disease, education and the welfare of women and children.
~Rod Brooks, President and CEO of Stop Hunger Now
