In 2015 the General Convention of The Episcopal Church committed to a response to systemic injustice that included working actively toward racial reconciliation.
The diocesan convention of 2016 responded with a resolution to provide 13.5 hours of training “which promotes racial justice and reconciliation in the Diocese by June 1, 2017”; and “speak honestly about issues related to racial injustice and reconciliation, equip our diocesan and church leaders to find more effective and productive ways to respond to racial injustice as we love our neighbors as ourselves, respect the dignity of every human being, and transform unjust structures of society” but “not label people as ‘racist’,” or “blame, shame or demonize people for their perceptions and understandings.”
