The Fort Worth East Deanery’s report to the 2014 Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth is submitted by the dean, Spencer Mabry. You may download a PDF of this report here.
The Fort Worth East Deanery was constituted on February 2, 2014 from elements of the old Fort Worth Eastern Deanery and the Eastern Deanery, now comprising of St. Alban’s, St. Stephen’s, St. Martin-in-the-Fields, and St. Luke’s-in-the-Meadow.
During our deanery meetings (2/2, 4/7, 8/11) our business consisted of:
- Hearing reports from the previous Executive Council
- Having other leadership in the diocese present reports
- Approving agendas of previous meetings
One of the most important things we did this year was propose a change to Canon 35 of the diocesan Canons, to allow for alternates to Executive Council to be elected from the deaneries. We are pleased to note that that will be presented to Convention.
Another important aspect of deanery life this year is that we are host to the 2014 Convention, which will be held at Jack Daniel’s Club (formerly the Diamond Club) at Globe Life Park (formerly Rangers Ballpark in Arlington) in Arlington, Texas, on November 14 and 15.
This has been a trying time for the deanery, as every parish has been in search of new rector or priest-in-charge, we have had no active clergy for a period in the deanery, and several members have resigned from their positions in the Deanery. However, with the grace of God, we have made it through.
