Texas Impact and its sister organization, the Texas Interfaith Center for Public Policy, form an interfaith network that brings faith to bear on social issues through grassroots education and policy advocacy. Together, they give people of faith the information and leadership skills they need to help policymakers improve conditions for families and communities throughout Texas. The dioceses of Fort Worth, Texas, and West Texas are Texas Impact members.
Kathleen Wells, a member of the Texas Impact board, said, “This is a great way for us to live into our Episcopal Lutheran full communion status and to get some Episcopalians directed toward this ministry” of advocacy.
Sunday, March 17, afternoon/evening will consist of workshops with bishops from both churches talking about the spiritual component of advocacy and social justice. Monday, March 18, will be training on advocacy and trending issues before the Legislature. Tuesday morning, March 19, participants will be on their own to go to the Capitol to meet with local senators and representatives.
