Endowment honors the Rev. William Taylor

Brite Divinity School has announced the establishment of the William Taylor Latino/a Ministries Endowment. The endowment was made possible through a generous gift from Dr.  Timothy and Mrs. Sylvia Metz Stevens. Dr. Stevens serves on the Brite Divinity School Board of Trustees.  The Stevens have been active members of St. Christopher Episcopal Church in Fort Worth since 1999. They have two sons and five grandchildren.

On Wednesday, March 4, in the Robert Carr Chapel at Brite at TCU, there will be a worship service to mark this generous gift. The Rev. Bill Stanford of St. Christopher Episcopal Church, will preach, and the Rev. Canon Janet Waggoner, Canon to the Ordinary of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth, will celebrate.

The endowment honors the late Rev. William J. Taylor, III, longtime priest in the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth, for his outstanding contributions to ministry as an Episcopal priest in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, particularly for his work in multi-cultural contexts.

Newell Williams, president of Brite Divinity School, with Sylvia and Tim Stevens in 2015 , at the announcement of the completion of the endowment for the Rt. Rev. Sam B. Hulsey Chair for Episcopal Studies.

“Thanks to the Stevens’, Brite is able to further studies that support the needs of Latino/a communities,” said Newell Williams, President of Brite Divinity School. “Rev. Taylor’s ministry and commitment to the Latino/a community will live on through Brite’s support of Latino/a ministries such as the Instituto De Verano Para Ministerios Hispanos, an intensive seminar for Spanish-speaking clergy and lay pastors held in Dallas each summer.”
