You’re invited to join with laity, deacons, priests, and bishops from across The Episcopal Church April 9-11, 2014 in Oklahoma City, in order to confront the epidemic of violence in our nation. The gathering seeks to renew Christians’ Gospel-mandated commitment to choose peace in a world of violence.
Participants will join in deep conversation, prayer, and skill-building during the three-day event, working to address violence and to reclaim the church’s role in society as people of non-violence and peace. Plenary sessions, workshops, small groups, and worship will focus on advocacy, education, liturgy, and pastoral care as four primary avenues for addressing the culture of violence within and outside the church.
The program begins April 9 with dinner and presentations by Bishop Eugene Sutton of Maryland and Bishop Ed Konieczny of Oklahoma. Thursday’s events include a panel highlighting unique Episcopal responses to violence, along with workshops, worship, and an opportunity for participants to organize their own working groups. Friday the gathering will conclude with a special tour of the Oklahoma City Memorial, followed by dinner and a celebration of holy communion where Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts-Schori will preach.
The early-bird registration rate of $185 is available through December 4. More information can be found here and on the Diocese of Oklahoma’s website as well as on the event’s Facebook page.
