The Cursillo report to the 2014 Convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth is submitted by John Banks. You may download a PDF of this report here.
The Cursillo movement is alive and well in the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth. With the pastoral support of our bishop, the movement continues to revitalize and impact the faith of our community.
Cursillo oversight is through the secretariat, the governing board. Members of the secretariat are John Banks, chair and lay director, All Saints’, Fort Worth; Tony Hiatt, spiritual advisor; Susan Slaughter, spiritual advisor; Hal Schulz, Good Shepherd, Granbury; Marty Fagley, Episcopal Church in Parker County; Cynthia Eichenberger, Episcopal Church in Parker County; Tim Stevens, St. Christopher, Fort Worth; and Kathleen Wells, Trinity, Fort Worth.
The secretariat met earlier in the year and elected Marti Fagley as rector of Cursillo weekend #3. Marti and the secretariat selected a team of 14 individuals to lead the next 3-day weekend. The team met several times during the summer and fall to train and to prepare for the weekend. The next weekend will be held at Glen Lake Camp in Glen Rose on January 9-12, 2015. We encourage all who are interested in learning more about how to live life as a Christian and deepen their relationship with God to explore attending the next weekend. There are many who have gone before you, particularly in leadership positions in the church, and we all stand ready to sponsor you. The only prerequisite is that you are a baptized Episcopalian. Information is available at your congregation or through the diocesan office.
In addition to planning the weekend, the Fort Worth Ultreya, a group of members, has met over the year on several Sunday evenings at the home of Tony and Lydia Hiatt. We have enjoyed fellowship as we reviewed our lives of piety, study and action and thank the Hiatts for opening their home to us. Many of us meet in small groups on a weekly basis to continue to learn and grow in our relationships with Christ.
As the 3-day weekend this year will not be held until after the first of 2015, the funds allocated for 2014 were not utilized. The Cursillo thanks the generosity of the Convention in continuing to fund our efforts for next year. We hope to have two weekends this year.
