Commemorating the fifth anniversary of the diocese’s re-organization, and in conjunction with a process taking place across The Episcopal Church, congregations throughout the Diocese of Fort Worth will reimagine what “being church” means. That work will be shared February 8 with people from throughout the diocese, as well as with Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori and House of Deputies President Gay Jennings.
Responding to a request from Bishop Rayford High, Jr., congregations will begin 2014 reflecting together on interview questions posed by the Taskforce to Reimagine the Church (TREC), formed by General Convention in 2012. To facilitate that process, TREC offers an Engagement Kit online. Congregations are urged to download the kit and utilize the process. In addition, congregations and individuals are also encouraged to post their reflections online, in the answer section at the bottom of the web page.
On February 8 the diocese will gather for the Reimagining Our Church event at University Christian Church, 2720 S. University Dr., Fort Worth, TX 76109. Clergy and laity will share their thoughts about reimagining the church with the presiding bishop and the House of Deputies president. Diocesan youth are especially invited, and will spend time at lunch with the presiding bishop. Participants will also enjoy a panel discussion linking the reimagining process with the Anglican Communion’s Five Marks of Mission. The day will close with a celebration of Holy Eucharist.
Registration for the February 8 event will cost $25, which will include lunch. For those who do not register online by Monday, February 3, there will be no lunch available because lunches have to be pre-ordered. Scholarships are available. For more information, call the Rev. Canon Janet Waggoner at 817-880-1050.
