The annual Chrism Mass was at St. Luke’s in the Meadow, Fort Worth, on Tuesday, March 20. At the Chrism Mass the bishop gathers with all the priests and deacons for the renewal of their ordination vows. It also is when the bishops blesses the chrism, the holy oils used in the sacraments throughout the year, which are then given to priests to take back to their congregations. The mass was followed by lunch and conversation.
Listen to a podcast and/or read the bishop’s sermon.
In his sermon Bishop Mayer reflected on the story of martyred Bishop Oscar Romero as he reminded listeners that we are witnesses that God liberates us from the bondage of sin. And he reminds us that even good things can hold us in bondage.
