On Friday, May 29, 2015, Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth had a reception at the Mira Vista Country Club in celebration of Episcopal Studies at Brite Divinity School.
The program celebrated the completion of the endowment of the Rt. Rev. Sam B. Huley Chair in Episcopal Studies, the Rev. Fred Barber’s service to Brite, and the new Episcopal Board of Trustees members.
Dr. Newell Williams, president of Brite, asked Bishop Rayford B. High, Jr. to begin the program with a prayer and Bishop Hulsey to close it with a benediction.
Ms. Cuba Webb of All Saint’s Episcopal Church, Fort Worth, and Dr. Tim Stevens of St. Christopher Episcopal Church, Fort Worth, were introduced as new members of the Board of Trustees.
Executive Vice-President and Dean Dr. Joretta Marshall said, “Like those of you who have known Father Fred over time, one is not surprised to see in his leadership a commitment to Christ’s church combined with a spirit that is open to the diverse experiences of our students. . . . As I have watched Father Fred and his engagement with students I see someone who ie genuinely interested in the wellbeing of these students, both as future leaders of the church and as human beings created in the image of God.” she said.
Addressing Barber directly, she said, “You have made a difference at Brite. I am grateful for your presence here and for the gifts you have brought to Brite. The good news is that some of our students will still experience your wisdom as a leader of a Theological Reflection Group for their Supervised Ministry. But we will miss your leadership of the Episcopal Studies program. More importantly, we give thanks for the faithful work you have done on behalf of this diocese, of Christ’s larger church, and of Brite Divinity School.”
