The Rt. Rev. Rayford B. High, Jr. visited All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Fort Worth on Sunday, Jan. 13, on what he termed a “glorious day of celebration of baptisms and confirmations.” In two services, six young children received Holy Baptism and 26 youths and adults were confirmed.
The scriptures for this particular Sunday were all about baptism and empowerment, noted the bishop. Reciting from the 43rd chapter of Isaiah — “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine” – Bishop High told the congregation that these words are “the essence of baptism.”
With God’s empowerment of us through the Holy Spirit, we are given gifts to use in ministry. “Pray and think about your gifts that God has bestowed upon you,” he said. These gifts are many and diverse. “What matters is to be open to whatever God gives.”
