Beauty and Bravery is a new blog, a new way of connecting in the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth. Our diocesan communications team does an excellent job of sharing the who, what, when, where, and how news about many of your adventures in Christ. In this new blog Bishop High and I hope to stir conversation about the “why” behind the “what” and “how” of the work of ministry we do together in this diocese. In addition to the things we post here, our hope is to have guest bloggers contribute short inspirational pieces for the benefit of the diocese once or twice each month.
The title Beauty and Bravery was chosen because these are the two overarching characteristics of the life of Christ and, we pray, the two outstanding characteristics of our lives as his followers, as Christians. Christ taught his followers to live “beautifully” when he showed them how to live together in grace, to receive love and calling from God, and to celebrate God’s goodness in the Sacraments and in creation. Christ taught his followers to live “bravely” when he named the things in religion that were not as they should have been, when he showed by his example how to lead humbly yet powerfully, when he gave what he had believing that God would use what he freely gave to transform the world. Here in the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth, we have been living our Christian faith beautifully and bravely for a long time. Bishop High and I suspect that the more people know why we believe what we believe and why we do what we do, the more people will want to join us. Together, we are being who God is calling us to be and doing things that others need to know about.
Here in the Episcopal Diocese of Fort Worth, we Episcopalians have a unique contribution to make, a true and powerful understanding of the Gospel to share. We pray that this blog will be a place where we can talk about the meaning of and the inspiration behind what we do together in our worshipping communities and other ministries of the diocese.
In Beauty and Bravery let us speak together of the things that bring us closer to the heart of God and draw us out into our communities in Christ’s name.
The Rev. Canon Janet Waggoner
